this was brought up in the V8 section but curious as to why people are not participating? is it spring? personal situation (which i know is the case for a few)
is there something that needs to be addressed with the organization, leagues, board, administration or quality of racing or racers?
maybe its just midseason lull, maybe i am reading too much into it. not sure.
We are planning S3 2015 now and need your input if we need to change something

After six months of not seeing green grass, I am enjoying the first week of green grass.
Also, doctorate school.

After six months of not seeing green grass, I am enjoying the first week of green grass. Also, doctorate school. PhD, MD or something else? Tony, I would chalk it up to a combination of a mid season lull plus a few personal issues. When I was looking at the results for the last few weeks we were getting 16 or so drivers per race. I think that if the other three Band of Others drivers made the race on last night then we might not be having this conversation about participation right now. That being said, I think your questions are valid questions that should be address so we can see fuller fields throughout an entire season and not just during the weeks where we visit the popular tracks.

For me personally it's a combination of things that's kept me out of action lately. First, as a west coast day-shifter I'm getting home too late and too tired to get my head into it on Tuesdays, perhaps starting the server 1 hour later would make it easier to to attend. Second, my weekly bad luck beat down took its toll psychologically, it's no fun spending my time letting lapping cars by...would be nice to be a factor in the race and not just a mobile chicane. Third, and most significantly, my recurring sciatica is causing my left leg and foot to go numb halfway into the race, making life fairly uncomfortable. Plus, as a new home owner, there are many domestic duties to attend to and seemingly never enough time to get them all done, so finding time to sit in the sim rig is getting more difficult. Will try to make Sebring though.

Maybe I joined at a bad time, first time since I started iRacing that I actually put some effort in a public series and when I can get on which is rare I put time into the Vette's. Also it's nicer out and if I don't take the wife out in the convertible 2-3 times a week I get "the look". I don't mean to take up space when I am doing nothing.

Luckily for me being on the East coast, the races are at the right time of night. I can understand the difficulty for west coast racers though. I have some friends on the west coast who love the V8s, but can't join the races because of the time. I have run races with them in the past where I had to stay up past midnight to finish. It's just very hard to get a good starting time which satisfies everyone in the US and Canada, and even harder when you try to add in some Europeans and Aussies.
I have cut way back on my racing and gaming in general lately. The weather has finally warmed up and I have been spending a lot more time outside with bicycling, BBQs, and just enjoying the nice weather. I'm sure it's the same for a lot of others, there is even a name for it, Spring Fever.

For me, it was the fact that my racing computer shat the bed in the middle of a practice session a few weeks ago … and I just built a new rig that I haven't fired up or properly tested yet. Just waiting on some final pieces to come in.
So hopefully I should be up and running within a few days.

Talking about my team, there is some reasons. We are just few drivers: Nicco and Rafa lives in Europe (impossible to race in Americas times); Doug have a young baby and have at best one timeslot per week, that is already filled with other competition. Cleber is having personal issues and prefer ovals. Chris is doing some races here (GT3) and learning the road side. He will race the next round probably. I and Arthur don't have any love for the V8 and Saturday night is impossible for Arthur (old NAGP problem, right Ed? ). I'm probably doing the next GT3 race with Chris, also. Thiago talked to me about the V8, but due the lack of interest of the team about it, he is focused in other series we are racing (Spirit of VLN and CESCS). But there is some other major issues, like the demotivation with the sim itself. Almost one year after the Driver Swap arrival, we still have Endurance races with a static weather, no day/night transition and static race surface. Any other sim is better than iRacing IMO? No. AC have a terrible netcode and actually is good just for hotlapping imo. rF2 have a great physics, but the online system, UI and even the netcode are not comparable to iRacing yet. What I can say is: we are racing a lot less. And looking to the league's scenario and even official racing overall, the number of drivers decreased, at least in the series we like. A lot of legendary leagues closed and in official racing is hard to find a "non SoF" race that split outside the GT3, skippy and MX-5, as example. So, my opinion is that we are (the entire sim racing community) living a bad moment and it will keep this way for some time yet.

I think the formula (time slot, length of race, league, etc.) is good, just hard to get participation in spring and summer. For me it's a combination of personal situation and recent obligations. I think GV8 went dormant about this time last year didn't it? I'm too lazy to actually research it, but I think it was last Spring, and then it came back big time with the new cars being introduced. If this is a pattern, maybe we should take the Spring season off and replace with a few special "fun" events in the same time slot. (I can feel daggers coming in from the hard core V8 guys, but just a thought... and probably one I'll change my mind on tomorrow.)

It's funny that you should say that because I had mentioned that to Tim and Troy in our TS. I thought a "break the cycle" season would be a lot of fun. Maybe mix it up every year too. I know it wouldn't go over too well with the guys (like myself) who love the league race as practice for Thursday and Friday, but I think I like larger turn outs more than practice. I think I'm just weird like that.

I would like to see something different next season also. Don't get me wrong, I still really like the V8s, but I get bored easily. Either do some one off events or try a different car for a season.
My suggestion would be the Corvette and the new Aston Martin in a GT1 series. New cars usually generate a lot of interest and I'm sure this one will be no different.

I will be running the Indy 500 this year, not sure which timeslot. I don't have a setup yet though. Guess I need to start looking for one or trying to build one.
