Here is my first blurb for the website. I'll get them ironed out a bit more as I get comfortable writing them. I haven't had to write like this since I was on the newspaper staff for my high school.
GV8 Newcomer Impresses at Phillip Island
League newcomer, Jere Pääkkönen turned a few heads this week by edging out the GV8 points leader, Tony Kloosterman by .006 of a second to claim pole position. In addition to stealing away the pole, Pääkkönen also set the fastest lap of the race with a 1:30.491, and he lead the last seventeen laps of the race to win decisively at the venerable Phillip Island Circuit. Never Quit Racing teammates Tony Kloosterman and Victor Tanaka locked up second and third to solidify the podium, while Ryan Shelton of Newfornia Motorsports and fellow league newcomer, Justin Rebelo rounded out the Top Five.
The Checkered Flag at Phillip Island marked the end of S2 2015 and with that your GV8 season champion is…Tony Kloosterman (2,441)! Kloosterman reclaimed his position atop the GV8 leaderboard after Week 8 (Mt. Panorama) and never looked back. Ryan Shelton (2,223) finished second after his season started picking up serious steam around the halfway mark. Finally, as a testament to his consistency, Val DiPietro (2,093) claimed a much deserved third place finish in the overall standings.
The S2 2015 Team Standings was dominated this season by Newfornia Motorsports. Newfornia Motorsports A (Ryan Shelton and Troy Eddy) finished the season in first place with 4,787 total points, which consisted of two Wins, ten Top Five and twenty Top Ten finishes. Band of Others Racing A (Ken Lindberg and Mac Gammack) finished in second place with a total of 3,629 points from six Top Five and fourteen Top Ten finishes. Lastly, Newfornia Motorsports B (Anthony Mino and Tim Briggs) finished third with 3,376 points garnered from six Top Five and Thirteen Top Ten finishes.
Summer vacation starts next week as iRacing and the GV8 set out to have a little fun during everybody’s favorite break week, Week 13. Next week’s track is currently TBD, so keep checking the forums for further details about next week’s race.
