Finally got in to see the eye doc today. The good news is that the diabetes hasn't caused any damge to the eyes. The kinda bad news is that I have cataracts in both left & right eyes that need removed. Short version is that I will be probably be out of competitions for another month or so. See the surgeon next week (at least that happened relatively quick) and I will know more of exact time frames. You all take care and maybe I'll see you at a practice or two.

That is good news, Jim. Give the peepers the ole 12-point maintenance inspection, and get back out there!

Visit to my general practitioner today. Good news... blood sugar is down to high normal range and 10lbs. lighter. Down a total of about 40lbs. Not so good news... shadow on right lung is significantly(?) larger than on xray from 3 years ago. CT scan ordered and I am sure a earlier than anticipated trip to the pulmonologist. Ever get that feeling?

Ever watch the X-Files? They had a season arc about the black spot.

Met with the surgeon last week and got eyes measured for lenses. Have to stay in glasses until called again this week to have eyes measured again. Apparently contacts can change the shape of the eye so glasses only. If this weeks measurements are close to last weeks, then surgery can get scheduled. Otherwise another week and so on until the measurements stabilize. This sucks! After watching a DVD on cataracts, I am guessing this has been a problem for me for the last few years, slowly but surely degrading eye sight until a rather dramatic change this last Dec. which threw up the red flag of a problem. Trying to do any reading or the like is a pain in the ass. Sometimes the reading glasses help, other times almost seem to make things worse. I can hot lap, but that's about it. Not even sure I can last long enough to do a time trial session.
Depending on recovery and re-training, I am guessing mid April or later before I am back competitive again.
