It is so hard for me to find consistent time lately (ok, for a long time now, but I haven't given up) to put in enough practice to feel secure on the track, especially in a V8, so I have been filling my time with some ARMA 3. I have just figured out the Alive module and it is awesome. I can get 2400 units setup and acting reasonably intelligently in 5 minutes. Been mostly running Air Cav, but I have been messing around with an A-10 as well.
Anyone else playing around with this?

If anyone here is into military shooters, this is amazing. Alive mod just blows me away. In 5 minutes I had an airport to clear and secure, which I did in short order. Then I pushed to cut off a major road into town, where I got bogged down playing hide-and-seek with a couple of APC's, which cost me dearly. I finished them off only to see a platoon of armor heading my way. I hit the dirt and did what I could. Then suddenly, my AI sent in an attack chopper and took the pressure off of us. I am such a dork, I actually cheered! My infantry held the center of town against a couple of assaults before I took one in the melon and ended my day. Oh, did I mention the bell tower sniper that pinned me down entering the town square. The game is fantastic, the mod is absolutely amazing.

Probably going to take the plunge soon. I saw it was in Alpha last year, and thought "eh, I better wait", then I lost all time of it.
I'll get on it most riki-tik.

Let me know when you get it George, we will have to get together.
I see they have an IED mod wrapped into the Alive suite, so I might try my hand at combat engineer tonight. I am going to download the Nimitz later tonight, so I am looking into getting some Hornet/Falcon carrier battles going soon.

I have Arma III but I have yet to actually play it. The only "Arma" that I play would be DayZ (standalone) and even at that it's hit and miss for me at the moment.

The vanilla game is ok, but turns into more of a turkey shoot as the AI is still more A than I, but I have been very impressed with what this Alive mod has done. Big groups of soldiers can still get a little wanderlust, or get slow on the move up, but small groups have been very cool to run with. I set up a very simple mission and ran it three times and got three completely different games.

With the Alive mod I only know that the enemy has a brigade (or platoon, or whatever), but not the composition (you can weigh towards things like air or infantry)or the location. Enemy units appear to work together. As I was closing in on a sniper last night, a helicopter came and shot us up pretty good, and by the time we took that out of the sky, we were beat to hell and the sniper had moved. Infantries work together to flank units with cement in their shoes. My one complaint so far is that enemy infantry doesn't seem to use their grenades. There is an M203 to make some noise, but actual hand-thrown grenades, not even smoke.

I have still been playing this, but I am using a Vietnam mod, as well as the MCC4 mod, instead of Alive. It is so much simpler. I turned up the AI in the game, and it is freaking brutal now. I have been suppressed and flanked, as well as suppressed while the mortars zero in.
I will be back-markering in the GV8 (when I have the tracks), but if anyone is interested, look for me on steam- jpocali
