Last week's fun-run and post-race chat provided more clarity on the overall direction, so here's where we are at as of today:
I. Race Format
Car Class = Daytona Prototype
Fast Tows = 1 free tow allowed
Yellow Flags = Permitted at the race steward's discretion
Race Distance = 1 Hour 45 minutes (Daytona); 1 Hour 15 minutes (all other)
Fuel Capacity = Modified to 30-35 minutes of driving to introduce alternate pit-strategies (approximately 50% capacity)
II. Draft Schedule
For season 1, we are keeping it simple with only 1 Endurance race scheduled at Daytona (we'll see how this goes and add more in Season 2 if the response is positive). I've also dropped Sebring (race #5) and added Phillip Island (race #1) so we can align the series closer to the official iRacing schedule.
III. Championship Details
Points = 35, 32, 30, 28, etc...
Overall Driver's Series = Based on best 4 out of 5 races (i.e. one drop race is allowed)
Teams Series = Based on 5 out of 5 races, 2 drivers per team
Gentleman Racer's Trophy = Based on lowest incidents per corner, 5 out of 5 races
IV. Important Dates
January 10 - Team/driver registration opens
January 15 - First official practice
January 17 - Race #1 (The "Thunder down Under" at Phillip Island)
To summarize most of our conversations so far ... this season we want to lay a solid foundation for building on in future seasons. So it's possible the formula may change slightly or dramatically in the future, either by changing the format of the races or even the mix of cars. We'll see ...
If you have any questions or comments about the draft schedule above, please feel free to post below. In the meantime, I'll continue to update our section of the forum, promo the championship, and add new information about the series.
Thanks everyone and I look forward to seeing you all on the track soon!
