I know it's not GRA releated, but Troy, Ryan and I started racing Corvettes on Sundays. It all started when a guy, who ended up being a fellow YouTuber, asked me if I was interested in racing Corvettes on one of my V8SC videos. Anyways, after about a season of not being available on Sundays, I became available so I started to run. I'm only three weeks into racing the Corvette and thankfully it's not that dissimilar from the V8SC, so I'm picking it up rather quickly. I've made sure to represent the league as well.

Nice paint I so want to race the Corvette again. I love that car as much as the V8 and L79. Glad to hear you are having fun with it.

When I change my paint I like to uniformly change all my cars to a similar scheme. I'm weird like that. And beyond a few rare events (2 hours of Sebring), I haven't really touched this car much. I think it's a solid ride and it deserves more participation. I imagine that a good portion of the GT3 crowd will flock to the rebranded series once the Aston Martin hits the service next season. Either way...I'm having a good time driving this car. This week was a lot of fun. Last week...not so much.

The Corvette was the car the brought me to iRacing honestly. I made quite a few tutorial videos that are on Youtube that could give you (or anyone) some pointers on getting this old gal around the track, they were not super quick, but I usually had a top 5 finish when I raced it. Its been a while since I drove this car so the videos may be out of date but give them a look. www.youtube.com/channel/UC6miWlDXiSzgMo6htPcpvow/videos

I have been having a good time in this series as well. I have always really liked the Corvette and used to run it a lot when the GT Challenge series was still going. I didn't like it in the Proto/GT challenge because I was always getting run over by the LMPs. When iRacing started the Corvette challenge series, I was exited, but it was very hard to find official races and I thought the series was going to die. But it has really picked up this season, especially since they announced the Aston Martin will be joining the series next season. You can now find sporadic races during the week and guaranteed SOF races every Sunday. I did one race at Laguna last week with Tony Mino. He won and I got second. I did three races today at Monza. The first race I was taken out in the chicane on lap 1. The second race went much better, I started 7th of 28 and finished 3rd. The third race, I started on pole and got 2nd. I had a lot of fun in the 2nd and 3rd races today. Monza is great with the Corvette. If anyone wants to just try some laps, here is a really good setup I found on the forums and tweaked a little. If you have problems spinning while braking, raise the brake bias. 15S2 Monza R.sto (2.18 KB) Here is a Qual setup also, basically the same with less fuel. My best lap with it was 1:35.451 15S2 Monza Q.sto (2.18 KB)

I ran at the 10:00 AM (1:00 PM Eastern) SOF race in the 2nd split. Started 6th and finished 2nd. By the way, thanks for the setup this morning. After early laps in practice I was quickly dropping my lap times. I ended up with a best of 1:35.6ish in practice and I ran in the low to mid 36s during the race with an occasional high 35.

There were 14 drivers, mostly from North America with 1 Aussie, 1 Brazilian, and 1 from UK&I.

Here are some setups for this weeks track Donnington. I took Aaron Thacker's setup from the forum and tweaked the gears, cambers and settled the rear end. I may also adjust pressures, they seem a little high. Race setup with enough fuel for the official race: 15S2 Donnington R.sto (2.18 KB) Qual setup: 15S2 Donnington Q.sto (2.18 KB)

This is just not my season. I'm sure this has something to do with my blipping technique but it's strange that it's happening mid season. I've blown motors before (rarely) because of too rapid of downshifting, but I always knew that when it was that. I could hear that I over revved the motor and it popped. Now, however, it just happens and in situations where I wouldn't expect them. On Thursday my car popped going from 4th to 3rd. In this race it was a 3rd to 2nd (the most frequent blown motor downshifting incident for me), but it wasn't a downshift that was any more rapid than the ones I had in practice. In your experience is it possible to increase the likelyhood of a blown motor by blipping too hard IE too high of an RPM before a downshift? I'm kind of at a loss right now. Maybe it's just bad luck? It's not as if this is a problem that happens in practice. Frankly, I've blown more motors during races than I am practice.

When do you up shift? Many builds ago, you had to up shift when the second yellow light comes on. Its not like most cars where you rev it up as high as the limiter will let you. If you see red on the RPM lights you are going too high.
From my understanding in iRacing, blowing the motor isn't a one time mistake. It is caused by constant "abuse". Is that right? If it is, then my guess is you are downshifting too early, I have not heard of blipping too hard. But ya, try and keep the RPMs in the yellow at all times, if you aren't already.

The great thing about doing YouTube is that I can go back and watch the live recordings. I have gotten into a nasty habit downshifting when I start braking into a corner, which of course sends the car spiking off the rev limiter. So I now need to go out and break that damn habit. The Corvette is an unfortunate case because I had really good pace last week, but given the lower RPM range...I was destined to pop one. I was worried that it was my blipping, it's just this other, far more deadly, bad habit.

Good to hear Tony, well good that I was able to help, not so good that you found the problem and I know exactly what you mean. Going from the V8 to the Corvette is a little tricky. The V8 you rev it to the max, in the Corvette you can't do that, ever I did a good job working on downshifting a beat later than I normally would have, but it sure is a hard habit to break. The problem I had with last week's Corvette race is that I had about 30 mins or so of practice before the race. I was really unprepared. So I think knowing this going into next week I will be able better prepare and manage my shifting.
