A few of us have been chatting about a decal pack behind the scenes, so I did a very rough mock-up of what it would look like to see how it works. Here's an example on the MP4 using my limited graphic skills: The door plate needs some work (it's too low on the MP4) but I wanted to call to your attention the red mirrors, red wing plates, red window decal and of course the red number plate which would all be standard on the GT category. Also, I made the font big enough that you can read it -- I mean it doesn't look like a dirty smudge. I'm sure guys like Chris or Gregg (to name a few) could do a lot more cooler looking things with this than I can. What's nice, is that we can use the decals regardless of what car skin your using ... so even if you don't have a custom skin - we can make a number plate for you "easy-peasy".However, to make this work we would have to rely on a decal pack which we zip up and make available to you for download. It won't interfere with TradingPaints, and of course, you can always delete the files if you don't like them. Will it make you faster? No. Will it look cool? Yes. Will it look very cool on a broadcast? Absolutely. So my question to you all, is what do you think? Would you download and use a decal-pack from us if we developed a set of number plates and GRAsim decals?

I love stuff like this. Definite yes for me.
Although I don't see the necessity in this season having mandatory class colors.

Good point Paul - I'm always hoping for the possibility of multi-class racing, but it introduces some unnecessary complexity to this. We can probably simplify this by using a number plate and some nose/tail/fender decals. We might be able to even remove those "pesky" license colors from the wings, etc.
To "operationalize" this ... I would need to ask drivers to provide me with their iRacing driver_ID and car choice when they register (so no switching cars mid-season without informing us to change your number plate). I would then sort the number plates based on the cars, and add the driver ID to the file name so the sim will know how to display them. Finally, I'll zip it up and post it to the pre-race notes for you to download if you wish to.
So to clarify - it's completely optional - drivers that like this can download and use it, drivers that don't care for it, can skip the download they just won't see the number plates and GRAsim decals.
