Hated to miss first race. Just didn't get a chance to practice all week and didn't want to run unprepared.

It was a fun race while I was alive. It's sad to see some people so aggressive on lap 1, where we should be a lot more careful. A dive bomb took me from 5th to last on lap 1, I took it for what it was and pushed hard to get back into the race. I think I managed to get up to 6th or 7th (just made a pass) when I got hit from the rear (partially my fault for braking a little earlier than I should have, and due to having newer tires than the guy behind me). The funny thing, the initial hit didn't seem to do much, it was ricocheting off of him in the last chicane that did the race ending damage to my front right wheel.
Overall though, the race was fun and I had a blast fighting my way back up towards the front.

Updated with results! Sorry for the delay - I needed to update the scoring site too. Now for some pancakes and BTCC action

hi kids. i had a fun race. started in the back. managed to avoid the first lap carnage. the last chicane was causing me problems tho. spunout two laps in a row. ran a full tank then pitted for 4 tires and about 10 gal. 30 sec stop. made it to end with spotter telling me to pit on last lap. i only had some spins and no crashes with only 7 inc so good for me. thanks ed for setting this up. cheers bill

Great first race to start the new season!
I entered the session with zero practice laps done because of the upcoming Baja SAE race. Qualifying wasn't clean as I was still experimenting with lines and where I could push. The one clean lap I managed out of the four was good enough for 8th place. Which was three spots behind my teammate Eric.
The race start was pretty hectic. I’m not sure what happened to the leader at the start but there was a big stack up near the front that resulted in three wide going down the front straight. Turn 1 was surprisingly clean, I thought for sure we would have a spin, but we seemed to give each other just enough room.
Going into the first chicane there was the expected bottleneck, but I had to take slight evasive action to avoid rear ending another car. I let my Eric past me to take care of the resulting slow down. Unfortunately the driver behind me seemed to miss his braking completely, he flew past me and into Eric’s right rear.
Once I had gotten around the mess I set my sights on Ricardo who was ~6 seconds up the road. Throughout the whole first stint the gap stayed relatively constant until the very end when he was battling with Alvin for 4th. Just before pit stops the gap had closed to under 2 seconds. When the pit stops cycled through Ricardo was 9 seconds up the road and I’m not sure what happened to Alvin. Taking tyres seemed to be well worth it as Ricardo’s pace dropped from first stint. I made the pass and moved into 3rd with ~20 minutes to go and figured that was where I would sit. Then I realized that Anderson was in fuel saving because he pitted early. When I caught him with less than 10 minutes to go he let me by and I finished in a surprise 2nd place. Thanks so much to Eric for giving me an amazing setup. I could put the car wherever I wanted and it would stick.
Good to see so many new people for the start of the season. As far as cleanliness I think it went pretty well considering the number of new people we saw. Hope to see everyone at the second race!

Paul,
Virtual Charlie Whiting did not appreciated the fact that I entered the pits 30 km/h over the speed limit.

Just curious since I have been away from the GT3 series for a few seasons, what seems to be the "it" car this season or are they pretty equal now. I just picked the Ford because I never really drove the GT2 Ford GT but the little I did I thought it was pretty easy to drive and had a good balance so I thought they couldn't screw it up when making a GT3 version. I just had very little practice for this race and the setup I was running was actually one posted for Suzuka. My car of choice here on GRAsim is the V8 supercar series so I am used to a car that doesn't drive right , but I am typically not 2 or 3 seconds off the pace.

Paul, Virtual Charlie Whiting did not appreciated the fact that I entered the pits 30 km/h over the speed limit. Ah, that sucks. My car of choice here on GRAsim is the V8 supercar series so I am used to a car that doesn't drive right , but I am typically not 2 or 3 seconds off the pace. In my opinion the cars are quite balanced with the slight exception of the Ford GT. It might be slower in the corners but it's a rocket in a straight line, but it's gearbox is also at a natural disadvantage to all the more modern GT3s. In MOE for example, McLarens took the pole 4 out of 5 times (Enzo Bonito each time), but all the cars were extremely close in qualifying pace. Lately it seems everyone has been coming over to the RUF, so maybe with the updates it has gotten a slight edge. BMW is definitely the easiest to drive, McLaren requires the most finesse, and the RUF seems to be in the middle.

The Ford GT is not balanced, but it is something like 7~8 tenths off pace (I'm talking about the world class drivers perfomance here) not 2 seconds. However, the Ford GT3 is the hardest of the GT3 cars to be tammed and it's setup is tricky. This mean that in "human" hands this car can be 2 seconds off pace compared to a "human" Ruf/BMW/McLaren driver. The guys who want to race with it need to like it a lot, because probably they will not have a win shot using it. I'm against any BoP outside what iRacing is doing. Every driver can change their ride until the second race if I read the rules well. You guys don't know him, but Leandro is a hell of a driver that qualified his team Ruf @ Masters of Endurance COTA race ahead of some pro teams, if I'm not wrong, inside the top 15. Then, you can trust that his laptimes are a very good benchmark for what the Ruf is capable. I will be at next race. It will be seriously fun!
